Welcome!
I'm Leigha Verbeem
By definition, health means complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. I knew this definition while studying, but I never really took it to heart until I saw how my own health took a turn for the worst and it impacted EVERY aspect of my health. I make sure all of my clients now feel healthy in all aspects – physical, mental, emotional, social, financial – of their lives.
You deserve health.
About the GIrl
How it All Started
For as long as I can remember, nutrition and exercise have ALWAYS been a part of my life.
My parents more often than not cooked at home, were always telling me about the health benefits of the foods we were eating and loved to support local markets. While I didn’t take too fondly to sports, my parents were always encouraging my sister and I to be outside in the sun and run around – I’m talking climbing trees, on the trampoline, on our bikes, skiing… whatever activity we could find.
You’d think that the natural progression would be to pursue a career that promoted health, but I actually had a really difficult time choosing what to do when I grew up. My passion for leading a healthy lifestyle has always been just that, a lifestyle. However, my passion for helping people was always apparent. In my first year of university, I was studying psychology. While I LOVED learning about the science of our brain, I HATED having to study the courses. I could get up for the gym at 7 am, but I couldn’t wake up at 8 am for class. Clearly something needed to change.
This is what prompted me to attend school first for fitness and health promotion, and then continuing to study health sciences and obtaining my degree in Kinesiology. So, cool… I attended a program to become a nationally certified personal trainer and furthered my understanding in health sciences – now what?
As you can imagine… pursuing higher education, working multiple jobs and in environments that didn’t align with me, my health took a pretty significant toll. I was dealing with severe IBS symptoms, my hair
started falling out, my periods were a mess, extreme fatigue and brain fog, 70 lbs of weight gain…
For someone who grew up in such a healthy atmosphere, studied health and was in charge of promoting a healthy lifestyle to others… how could I possibly be in such bad shape? What was Imissing? I, of course, got the same advice from my doctor as everyone else… “It’s just stress.” And so I continued to uncover every possible stress inducing factor of my life.
I left my toxic work environment and finally pursued my certificate as a stretch therapist, working as an entrepreneur for the first time ever. I explored every possible facet of what could be contributing to my IBS flare ups – how my eating habits, unresolved traumas, my constant state of ‘go go go’, my pelvic floor dysfunction, my styles of exercise all were triggering symptoms.
I am okay now. But that isn’t something that many people can say. I completely overhauled my perspective on what health means to me. I am here to be the health coach that I WISH that I had while on my healing journey. Someone to point me in the right direction, someone who could guide me through each transformation of my journey, someone who could keep me from making a lot of mistakes.
This is why I created the RELIEF method. A method that tackles each aspect of our lives and helps you garner what is truly important to our health beyond just “eat less of this and move more.”
